Students from Delhi University have demanded a cancellation of the final semester online Open book Examinations and instead promote the final year students based on the evaluations on their performance in the previous semesters.
The students and teachers of the university have been opposing the online Open Book Examinations and have provided various reasons which include internet connectivity and lack of transparency in the conduct of the exams.
In a statement released, the students have made it clear that they stand against the DU Online Open Book Examinations. The statement further adds that after repeated and unequivocal attempts of students across the country the University Grants Commission and the Human Resource Development remain adamant on conducting the examinations.
The students have mentioned that the numerous states across the country have decided to cancel the respective state university examinations including the Delhi Government which is why the student's java also put forth a demand of cancelling the examinations whether conducted online or offline and an immediate evaluation must be conducted based on the results of the previous semesters.
The students have also pointed out that the Mock test conducted recently by the university was a total mockery. The students pointed out that out of the 2 lakh final year students only 1.1 lakh students were able to register for the mock tests out of which only 26 percent of the students were able to upload their answers which sum up to only 13 percent of the total students who were supposed to appear for the exams.
The Delhi High Court was informed that Delhi University will be conducting the final year undergraduate examinations as an Online Open Book Examination from August 10 to 31, 2020. The High Court bench was informed by the university that the students who are left out of the exams will be given an opportunity to appear for the physical exams which will be held in September.
The students have claimed that they have been facing obstacles on the portal which include a bad gateway, errors, and an inability to upload documents and wrong question papers. The students added that they are opposed to the guidelines of the UGC of making the final year exams mandatory and condemn the silence of the MHRD which seems to take the systematically developed attack on publicly funded higher education even further.
