Delhi University Reopening: The University of Delhi is all set to resume offline classes and physical lectures from 17th February 2022 onwards. The news about DU Reopening and resumption of offline classes for the students has been confirmed by University Proctor Rajni Abbi following students’ protests. The announcement comes as a major relief for thousand sof students who have been demanding reopening of college campuses and university departments for physical lectures for nearly two weeks now.
For now, only the news about DU reopening has been confirmed by the media agencies. The university is in the process of preparing a detailed notification confirming the development and also sharing other necessary details. DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh is expected to release an official notice along with the necessary guidelines and COVID-19 SOPs that are to be followed for resumption of physical lectures.
DU Reopening Decision after Students’ Protests
The decision to reopen Delhi University campuses for offline classes comes following a series of protests organized by different students’ group on campuses. Today morning, 9 students from the students' group ABVP launched a Hunger Strike in the University's North Campus demanding reopening of the university. Prior to this, protests were also held by Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and it grew larger as activists from the left and right-wing, along with students joined it.
Different Students' groups have been holding protests on campus seeking resumption of offline classes and reopening of colleges for nearly two weeks now. Addressing their concerns, Proctor Prof. Rajni has informed that the varsity will resume physical lectures from 17th February onwards.

Self-Immolation Attempt by a Student
Earlier in the day, at around 1 PM in the afternoon, several media agencies reported that a student protestor at Delhi University’s North Campus had attempted to set himself ablaze by pouring petrol over himself. However, he was saved by Delhi Police Officials who reached at the spot of the protest on time. The student identified as Kamal Tiwari was taken into police custody immediately and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
