100-Days Reading Campaign: As per the recent updates, Week 1 of 100 Days Reading Campaign has started. Students from Class VI to VIII will visit the school library & explore books there. Every child will get one age-appropriate book, read it and talk about it in the fourth week. On Saturday, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, launched a 100-day reading campaign titled 'Padhe Bharat'.
The launch of the campaign is in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 that lays emphasis on the promotion of joyful reading culture for children by assuring the availability of age-appropriate reading books for children in the local/mother tongue/regional/tribal language.
100-Days Reading Campaign Activities
One activity per week will be designated for one group with the focus on making reading enjoyable and fun and building a lifelong association with the job of reading. It aims at having the participation of all the stakeholders at the national and state level, including children, parents, communities, educational administrators, etc.
100-days Reading Campaign 'Padhe Bharat'
The Padhe Bharat campaign will focus on children studying in Balvatika to Grade 8. The reading campaign will be organized for 100 days, starting from 1st January 2022, and will continue till 10th April 2022. Padhe Bharat will also focus on different Indian languages, including mother tongue, local language, regional language, etc.
Hence, 100 days Reading Campaign is envisaged to support and encourage students, along with their schools, teachers, parents, and communities, in every possible way and encourage children to read for a joyful learning experience.
Reading is the Foundation of Learning
The Minister while launching the campaign has underlined the importance of reading that children need to develop to ensure continuous and lifelong learning. Pradhan emphasized that reading is the foundation of learning, which motivates students to read books independently, develops creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary and the ability to express both verbally and in writing.

He stressed the need to create an enabling environment in which students read for pleasure and develop their skills through a process that is enjoyable and sustainable and which remains with them for life. He shared the names of the five books that he has picked to begin reading. He encouraged everyone to adopt the habit of reading books and urged all to share what they are reading along with suggestions.
