The Telangana government has adopted the union government proposal to reserve 10 percent seats in the medical and dental colleges in the state for the Economically weaker section of the general category. The EWS category admissions will be commenced from 2019-20 academic year. As per the government order, issued by the health, medical and family welfare department on Friday, the EWS reservations will be made in addition to the reservations meant for SC, ST and OBC candidates.
The government order states that the 'reservations will be made by implemented from specially sanctioned seats for implementation of EWS Reservations, which are exclusively permitted for implementation of EWS reservations by the Medical Council of India/Dental College of India/Ministry of Health Govt. Of India in Specified Government Colleges.
The order further states that the candidates seeking admission under the EWS Category will have to submit the income and asset certificate to the verifying officer at the time of verification of certificates as notified by Kaloji Narayana University of Health Sciences. In case a candidate fails to do so their claim for reservation under EWS category will not be considered and the decision of the verifying officer is final.
About EWS Reservation
The Economically Weaker Section Reservation criteria is only for the candidates belonging to the general category. Candidates from other categories such as OBC, ST, SC already have reservation benefits hence the EWS category reservation is not applicable for candidates belonging to any other category besides general category.
Candidates can check the government order on the EWS reservations to check whether or not they qualify for admission under the EWS category. Like for example general category students whose family income is less than INR 8 Lakhs (total annual income from all sources) than the candidate shall be eligible for EWS category reservation.
