Gujarat Govt Mandates Colleges Admissions Online via GCAS Portal

The Gujarat Centralized Admission System (GCAS) portal, designed for transparent government college admissions, faces challenges with some colleges attempting offline processes. Gujarat University has only 12,942 confirmed UG admissions out of 66,000+ seats, despite over 2.10 lakh registrations. In order to maintain equity, the Commissioner of Schools has outright banned offline admissions and threatened to take harsh measures against noncompliant institutions.

In order to facilitate centralized and transparent admissions into government colleges, the government established the GCAS (Gujarat centralized Admission System) portal, which is currently used for the admissions process for colleges under government-run universities throughout Gujarat.

However, some colleges have confused parents by giving students an offline process.

In response, a clear direction was issued by the Commissioner of Schools: offline admissions will not be allowed. All universities are required to use the GCAS portal for the admissions process, and they have been cautioned not to misinform or perplex parents.

Strict action will be taken against any school found to be in violation of these rules, guaranteeing the fairness and transparency of the admissions process and avoiding applicant confusion.
