Gujarat School Reopening News: As per the latest update, the Gujarat Government has permitted reopening of schools for Class 10 i.e. SSC and Class 12 i.e. HSC students in the state from 11th January 2021 onwards. The decision to allow schools in the state to reopen, nearly after 10 months was taken at State Cabinet Meeting held today i.e. 6th January 2021. Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama announced that the decision to reopen schools in the state was taken keeping in mind the upcoming board exams. He also added that the school reopening process will be carried out in strict adherence to the COVID Guidelines and SOPs prescribed by the Education and Health Department of the state.

No Parental Consent Required

While schools have been opening across various states in the country in January 2021, one key difference with regards to the Gujarat govt’s decision is with regards to parental consent. Announcing the Decision, Education Minister Chudasama said that all necessary preparation for reopening of schools has been done and that students will not require parental approval to attend regular classes in schools.

Important SOPs, Guidelines for School Reopening

To ensure safe return of students to school campuses across the state, the government has prescribed some important guidelines and standard operating procedures that are to be followed by teachers, students and school administrators.

  • School Campuses to be sanitized completely before reopening on Monday – 11th January
  • Students, Teachers and Non-teaching staff members to undergo thermal scanning before entering the campus
  • Everyone entering school campus will have to carry hand sanitizers and masks
  • Social distancing norms to be followed on campus, both in classroom as well as outside
  • School Canteens to remain closed, students to carry water, snacks, or lunches from home

GSEB Board Exam 2021 in May

In related news, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has hinted at the possibility of holding the SSC and HSC Board exams in May 2021. The Gujarat Board is planning to hold the GSEB 10th and 12th Exam 2021 from 10th and 17th May respectively. However, final dates along with detailed subject-wise date sheets / timetable is expected to be announced in the coming week.
