IIT Madras Teams Up With Jamia School To Offer Certificate Courses To Classes 9-12
IIT Madras has partnered with Jamia Senior Secondary School to give students of Classes 9 to 12 access to online certificate courses covering areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, engineering, law and humanities.
Students of Jamia Senior Secondary School will get an opportunity to explore academic fields beyond their regular school curriculum following a new partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The collaboration has been established under the institute’s School Connect programme and will allow students from Classes 9 to 12 to take up online certificate courses.
The initiative is aimed at giving school students early exposure to a wider range of subjects and disciplines. The courses are designed to help students explore areas that could eventually influence their choices for higher education and careers.
IIT Madras School Connect courses for Classes 9-12
Under the programme, students can choose from courses spread across several academic and emerging fields. These include artificial intelligence and data science, cybersecurity, engineering, mathematics and science, economics and finance, law, humanities and management.
The programme also includes areas such as ecology, forensic sciences, digital humanities, electronic systems, architecture and design, product design, biological systems, chemical engineering and aerospace. Game technology and other computing-related areas are also among the disciplines available to students.
The broad course basket allows students at different stages of senior school to explore subjects according to their interests. For students in Classes 9 and 10, the exposure could help them understand different fields before selecting an academic stream. Those in Classes 11 and 12 can use the courses to gain an understanding of areas they may consider for undergraduate studies.
E-certificates after course completion
The courses are offered online through the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras. Students who complete the required academic components, including assignments and examinations, will be eligible to receive e-certificates issued by IIT Madras CODE, via its official website code.iitm.ac.in.
The School Connect initiative currently provides courses across multiple future-oriented disciplines and is intended to introduce school students to emerging areas at an early stage.
With Jamia Senior Secondary School joining the programme, its students will have access to structured learning opportunities associated with IIT Madras while continuing their regular school education. The partnership also provides students with an opportunity to explore interdisciplinary subjects before making important decisions about their higher education pathways.
