Lovely Professional University has denied the rumours spreading on social media and other channels. The university called them false, baseless and fabricated. The statement came after LPU students protested at the Phagwara campus along with reports of vandalism. Registrar Dr Monica Gulati said some anti-social elements were spreading false information. She said this was creating confusion among students and disturbing the peaceful academic environment. The university said the messages looked like a deliberate attempt to malign its reputation and tarnish its image. Why LPU Students Protest Started
The student gathering began after unverified claims on social media about an alleged sexual assault of a female student on the campus. Some students demanded action and an investigation into the claims. They alleged the university had not acted on the matter. Police said no complaint regarding an alleged rape had been received at that point. Police also said they found no evidence to support the claims. Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said the situation looked like a misunderstanding between students and the university administration. He said the allegations would be looked into.
Damage on Campus and Appeal for Calm
The protest later escalated. Reports said windows and other campus property were damaged. Some objects were set on fire during the unrest. Students also blocked the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway. LPU said the information about the alleged incident is false and appealed for calm. The university asked students to avoid spreading unverified information. It again told them to follow communication issued through official channels only. The claims remain unverified so far. The focus now is on the student unrest, the university denial and the efforts of authorities to establish the facts behind the information that triggered the gathering.
