Maharashtra FYJC CET 2021 Cancelled: Bombay HC rejects Govt's request to hold Common Entrance Exam for Class11 Admissions

Maharashtra FYJC CET 2021 Cancelled: Rejecting the request put forth by Maharashtra State Government, the Bombay High Court had cancelled Maharashtra FYJC CET 2021, which was being planned as a screening test for Class 11 Admissions. Maharashtra State Govt had proposed the CET as an alternative way of admissions to class 11 following the cancellation of SSC / Class 10 Board Exams due to the pandemic. As per the initial media reports, the Bombay High Court has quashed the government's request for holding a Common Entrance Test, CET for 11th Admissions this year. Following this development, admission to FYJC or Class 11 in the state are likely to be held in accordance with the merit list which will be prepared on the basis SSC Board Exam Results 2021.

Maharashtra FYJC CET 2021 Alternative to Board Merit List

For 2021 session, following the cancellation of SSC Board Exams due to the devastating 2^nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic; the state government and education department had proposed holding a common entrance test as a screening mechanism to admit students to Junior Colleges i.e. to FYJC or Class 11 admissions. The FYJC Common Entrance Exam 2021 was seen as an alternative way of streamlining the admissions in order to have uniformity in the entire FYJC Admissions process. 

Objections raised against Maharashtra FYJC CET 2021

Ever since it was conceptualized as an alternative screening process for FYJC Admissions, the Maharashtra Class 11 CET 2021 has faced strong criticism and objections from various stakeholders. One the major objections against holding Maharashtra FYJC CET came from students of other boards who alleged that as the CET was being based on the Maharashtra Board syllabus it was discriminatory towards them and wouldn’t provide a level playing field to all the students.

Another objection against the Maharashtra CET 2021 for Class 11 admission came from teachers and parents, who felt that holding another screening test for FYJC Admissions 2021 will cause a major delay in the admission process. Therefore, holding FYJC CET 2021 will delay start of the academic year which is already delayed due to the pandemic.
