Schools in Mizoram will remain closed until the end of the year, officials from the government stated adding that the decision was taken by the state government in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection.
State education minister Lalchandama Ralte while speaking to the media stated that the classes for all the students from KG to class 12will be suspended due to the COVID-19 infection being aggregated during winters. Schools in the state have been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic however regular classes have been conducted for the students of classes 10 and 12 from October 16 which were later on suspended after 8 days after the students were infected.
School Reopening
The education minister further stated that although the re-opening of the schools has been tentatively scheduled for January 15, 2021, the final call for the same will be taken by the state executive committee. The state education department has also decided to continue with the online classes for the students until December 18, 2020, for the current year and begin the online classes from January 5 to 14 for the next year.
The government had earlier on agreed to cut down the syllabus for the students by 30 percent and also instructed the board to prepare a model question paper for the students of classes 10 and 12 since they will be appearing for the board exams next year.
Reopening in state schools across the country
Schools in many of the states across the country had earlier reopened but were shut down soon due to the rising cases of infection among the students post reopening. Some of the states have however not yet provided a reopening date for the schools and insist on continuing the online classes for the students until a thorough assessment of the situation is done for reopening the schools.
