
MP Schools to Remain Open: As school closures are announced in several states of India, students and parents from Madhya Pradesh have also been waiting for a similar decision soon. However, for now, the Madhya Pradesh Government has ruled out closure of schools in the state even as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said that Madhya Pradesh Schools would not be closed at present. However, as a precautionary measure, he has asked all schools to operate at 50% capacity for all classes until further notice.
Decision on School Closure after Review Meeting
As of now, the Madhya Pradesh State Government has allowed offline classes and physical learning to continue for students of all classes. However, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also said that the decision to close schools in view of the third wave of the pandemic would be taken after the review meeting in coming days. In a statement, MP CM said that "Daily Covid cases are increasing fast in Madhya Pradesh. However, we are monitoring the situation carefully and further decisions on putting more restrictions will be taken according to the situation in the coming days.”
Furthermore, he also added that “Indore and other districts is obviously a big concern for us, but the overall COVID situation in the state is under control. Schools with 50 per cent seating capacity will be allowed to continue till the next decision is taken after reviewing the situation.”
Review Meeting Chaired by CM
As the third wave of the pandemic intensifies, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has chaired an urgent review meeting to assess the situation in the state. During the meeting, he reviewed the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases in urban areas of the state including Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur, Ujjain and Gwalior. Along with this, he also assessed the preparations put in place by the officials to handle the surge in these districts. In terms of number of cases, on Monday, the state reported 2,317 new Covid cases, taking the total tally of active cases to 8,599 in the state. The major COVID hotspots of the state include Indore and Bhopal which each reported 645 cases, followed by Gwalior (291) and Jabalpur.
