NCERT Class 8 Social Science Textbook Revised; Judiciary Chapter Updated After Supreme Court Directive
NCERT Class 8 Social Science Textbook Changes 2026, rewriting the judiciary chapter by removing select references and increasing focus on constitutional roles.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training, NCERT has released the updated and revised textbook for class 8 social science subject. The changes have been made to chapters on the judiciary in compliance with directive from the Supreme Court. The chapter has been rewritten with many sections and made changes from the previous ones. The updated chapters place more focus on the constitutional role of the supreme court and it is functioning of the rule of law. It also gives importance to Public Interest Litigation, PIL tribunals, and alternative disputes, etc highlighting the role and to ensure to give justice
The revision has also been reflected in the questions of introductions that has been set for the chapters. Whereas the previous edition was more of focusing students to think about the importance of judicial independence. The new curriculum has started focusing on the role of building a fair peaceful society.
According to the NCERT, the revision has been made on the recommendations of an expert committee. The council said that the committee has reviewed the content before making any changes or revisions into the new text book. It is highly expected that the revised textbook will be use for class 8 students from the current academic year 2026-27.
NCERT has been revising the textbooks for all classes as a part of NEP 2020, and NCF 2023 with few editions published over the past year.
The textbook revision case remains before the supreme court and the next hearing is likely to be held on july 14, 2026 to review the progress.
