NEET-UG 2021: As per the released date by NTA, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG 2021) will be conducted on 1st August. However, there is speculation that the entrance exam may get postponed amid a delay in the registration procedure. As per the previous years' trends, the application and registration procedure begins 60 days before the exams, however, this year, the process has not started yet.

As per the media updates, the experts have said that the registration procedure of NEET and allotment of exam centres take around 45 days. Even if the registration starts today, NTA will consider providing candidates with at least 25 days to register themselves. Also, once the registration gets over, NTA will require some time to process applications which will not be completed till July end. Therefore, it is most unlikely that the NEET 2021 can be held on the scheduled date.
Students Demand Cancellation of Exam
Many students from across the country are requesting NTA and education minister to postpone NEET 2021 exam till October. Questions like ‘is NEET 2021 postponed’, ‘Is there any chances of NEET postponed’, 'Will NEET 2021 postpone are being asked on Twitter and Quora. Students took to Twitter and various social medical platforms requesting PM Modi for postponement of NEET UG exam with a campaign #postponeNEET.
Chances of NEET-UG 2021 Postponement
There are many reasons that the undergraduate medical entrance exam might get postponed. One of them being is major states like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat are the worst hit with the most active cases, followed by Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi. So authority might consider this to postpone NEET 2021 to a new date. Apart from that more than 50% of COVID cases are from rural areas and various states have implemented night curfew which can be an issue of transportation.

Besides, NTA has not released any notification regarding the NEET-UG 2021. No official statement has been shared by NTA on the postponement of NEET 2021. Therefore, the authorities might be having second thoughts on the conduction of NEET in the prevailing situation.
NEET 2020
Last year, NEET was held on 13th September 2020. Also, the candidates who were infected by COVID-19 or miss the exam due to the containment zones, for them the exam was held on 14th October 2020. NTA conducted NEET amid COVID-19. Therefore, this year too the authorities will conduct the exam, however, there are chances of postponement.
