NLU Delhi Reserves 50% seats for Delhi Students: National Law University, Delhi released the AILET 2020 Notification today. NLU Delhi holds the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) exam to screen students to be admitted to B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D. Programmes. While the AILET 2020 admission notification released today by NLU was quite similar to last year, one key change that caught the eye of all law aspirants was the provision for domicile based reservation. As per the AILET 2020 notification, NLU Delhi has set aside 50% of the total seats on offer for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)- Five-Year Programme and LL.M.-One-Year Programme for applicants from Delhi.

Total Number of Seats Reserved for Delhi applicants

While notifying the domicile based reservation for applicants from Delhi or the National Capital Territory; NLU Delhi has also provided the complete break-up for each of the courses offered by it. According to the details provided in AILET 2020 notification, of the total 110 seats on offer for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)- Five-Year Programme; the varsity has reserved 50% of the seats for Delhi Applicants. Similar policy is also adopted for admission to one-year LLM programme for which a total of 70 seats are on offer. The complete break-up of NLU Delhi seats which are offered under reservation are given in the table below:

Apart from the seats mentioned above, NLU Delhi has also set aside a few seats for direct admission of Foreign Nationals to all the three programmes i.e. 10 seats for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), 10 seats for LLM programme and 2 seats for PhD programme.

Delhi based Domicile Reservation – Eligibility Criteria

To provide clarity about the type of candidates who are allowed to take benefit of the Delhi based Domicile Reservation, NLU Delhi has provided detailed eligibility criteria for the same. NLU Delhi has defined Delhi Region seats as seats that are reserved for “Candidates passing the qualifying examination from a recognized School/ College/ Institute located within the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi”. Only such candidates will be eligible to apply for seats reserved for Delhi Region. The varsity has also provided clarification for distance education students saying “In case distance education students, If the centre of examination/ study centre is located in the N.C.T. of Delhi, the candidate shall be considered under the Delhi Region and if the centre of examination/ study centre is located outside N.C.T. of Delhi, he/ she shall be considered under the All India Level seats.”.
