The Odisha government has announced early summer vacations for all public and private schools and institutions, with immediate effect, in reaction to the extreme scorching conditions consuming the state.
The decision, which was made public on Tuesday, is intended to shield pupils from the intense heat that has caused daily disruptions in Odisha.
Has Summer Vacation Started for Odisha Students?
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level review meeting and underlined the need to prioritize children’s health during the adverse weather circumstances. Furthermore, the state administration has directed officials to make sure that anganwadi students receive dry food throughout the holiday period.
Till When are Odisha Schools Closed?
In accordance with the order issued by the CM Majhi, all educational establishments, ranging from Class XII to anganwadi centers and preschools, shall be closed from April 23 till further notice. Exams will take place as scheduled, but government and private universities will stay closed till further notice.
Why are Odisha Schools Closed
Odisha has seen a dramatic increase in temperature over the last three days, with highs exceeding 44°C in various areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that Jharsuguda had the highest temperature of the season at 46.2°C. Other regions that were badly impacted were:
- Hirakud: 44.7°C
- Sambalpur: 44.6 °C
- Titilagarh: 44°C
- Boudh: 44.5°C
Although the temperature in Bhubaneswar was relatively lower at 36.7°C, the heat index made the situation intolerable.
