Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship, popularly known as the CSSS scholarship, is one of the largest scholarship programmes run by the Ministry of Education for meritorious college and university students across India. The scholarship was set up to support students who score above the 80th percentile in their Class 12 board exams and then continue their higher education in a regular college or university course. For the 2026-27 academic year, the renewal window is now open on the National Scholarship Portal, and the last date to submit the renewal application is October 31, 2026. Every student who received the scholarship in the previous year must renew it online to keep receiving the money for the next year of study. Scroll down to get complete details.

PM USP CSSS Scholarship 2026: Eligibility Criteria for Renewal

Students who were selected for the PM-USP CSSS scholarship in the previous year can renew it for the next academic year only if they continue to meet the scheme conditions in a simple and clear manner. The student must be pursuing the same regular, full-time college or university course without any gap year, and must have cleared the previous annual or semester examination with at least 50% marks. Along with marks, the institution also checks attendance, and the student should have maintained adequate attendance, generally around 75%, as verified by the college or university. The scholarship is meant only for students who are not receiving any other central government scholarship or fee reimbursement for the same course, so holding another major scholarship can block the renewal. Students should also remember that the family income condition applies under the scheme, and the income certificate submitted at the time of fresh application should remain valid and within the prescribed limit. Renewal is not automatic, which means even students who cleared their exams easily have to log in and apply again every year before the deadline.

PM USP CSSS Scholarship Renewal Last Date 2026

The National Scholarship Portal is accepting PM-USP CSSS renewal applications for the 2026-27 session right now, and students have time until October 31, 2026, to complete their online submission. After the student-level deadline, the institutes get additional time to verify the applications, and the verification process at the institute level is expected to close by November 15, 2026. Students should avoid waiting for the final days because last-minute rushes often lead to payment failures, upload errors, or institute delays. One helpful point from the official guidelines is that students are not permanently debarred from the scholarship just because of a delay in renewal or verification, but the application still has to be submitted within the announced window for smooth processing.

What Happens After Submitting the Renewal Application?

After the renewal application is submitted, it moves through a verification chain that starts at the institute level, where the college or university checks the student’s admission status, marks, attendance, and uploaded documents. From there, the application goes through the district and state-level education authorities before it is finally approved for payment. Students can track every stage of this journey on the National Scholarship Portal dashboard using their login, and if any deficiency is marked, it should be corrected quickly so the verification is not delayed. Once approved, the scholarship amount for the eligible year is sent directly to the student’s Aadhaar-seeded bank account through DBT, and students receive an intimation once the payment is processed. Since institute verification is expected to close by November 15, 2026, students are advised to inform their institution immediately after applying and keep checking the portal for status updates until the money reaches their account.
