JNU gets 1st Female Vice Chancellor: Days after appointment of M Jagadesh Kumar named as new UGC Chairman being named the UGC Chairman, the university has gotten its First Female Vice Chancellor in the form of Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit. The Union Education Ministry announced that Ms Pandit will assume charge of the new Vice Chancellor, VC of Jawaharlal Nehru University – JNU from today onwards. Prior to JNU, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit was serving as the Vice Chancellor of Savitriphule Phule Pune University (SPPU).
Official Order Issued by Education Ministry
To confirm the appointment of Ms Pandit as the new and 1st female vice chancellor of JNU, Union Education Ministry has issued an official circular. Senior Officials from Education Ministry have noted that "President Ram Nath Kovind, who is Visitor to the University, has approved the appointment of Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as JNU Vice Chancellor. Her appointment is for a period of five years.”
About Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit
In terms of academic accomplishments, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has several accolades to her name. She completed diploma in social work from California State University, Longbeach, USA, BA in History and Social Psychology and – MA in Political Science from Presidency College, Madras. Prior to that, she was also a student of JNU where she completed her MPhil in International Relations as well as PhD in international relations with a thesis on ‘Parliament and Foreign Policy in India - The Nehru Years’.
On professional front, Ms Pandit began her teaching career at Goa University in 1988. Thereafter she moved to Pune University in 1993 where she has served as a Professor as well held several administrative posts in different academic bodies. She has also been part of University Grants Commission (UGC), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) during her tenure.
