The Department of Higher and Technical Education, Manipur has announced a two day holiday for all government and private schools and colleges in the state for today, September 11 and tomorrow, September 12, 2024.
The decision to close schools and colleges comes after protests in the state to restore peace in the region due to the clashes reports where over 40 students were injured while marching towards Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
The Manipur state government issued an order specifying the suspension of internet services due to the tensions and students' protest. The government also announced a state wise suspension of internet services earlier for five days.
What Happened?
Large number of students and female protestors took to the streets marching towards Raj Bhavan on BT road but were stopped by security forces. Students from Manipur University also held a protest rally where they burned an effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The rally later proceeded towards the state secretariat but was halted at Kakwa in Imphal.
The students protesting called for the dismissal of DGP and state security advisor alleging that the unrest was not handled effectively.
