According to recent reports, Officials in Diu have decided to shut down Anganwadi Centres, Pre-primary, Primary section classes from classes 1 to 8. The decision to shut down the classes was made following the rapid increase in the COVID cases.
Collector Saloni Rai while speaking to the media stated that following the increase in the COVID cases, the administration has decided to close pre-primary, primary and class 1 to 8 along with Anganwadi Centres in Diu. The administration has further requested tourists to take all precautionary measures and keep themselves safe.
Decision on Gujarat Schools awaited
With the chances of a third wave of the pandemic hitting soon, officials have decided to shut down the schools until class 8 while the decision regarding closing the schools and colleges in the remaining state is yet to be made.
The state government has made no such statement regarding the closing of schools and colleges amidst the COVID surge. An association of schools has also asked the Chief Minister to consider shutting down the schools.
Although there is no official data on the number of students infected it is estimated that at least 200 students have been infected with the virus. As the state continues to prepare for the Vibrant Gujarat summit 2022, many of the school officials, parents, and students await the decision regarding stopping the offline classes. An official statement is awaited apart from Diu regarding the closing of schools and colleges.
Vaccination for Children
The government has started the vaccination process for children between the ages of 15 to 18. According to reports close to 1 crore, children have been vaccinated until now. The vaccination for children below the age of 15 is yet to be decided and until then all necessary precautionary measures are to be taken to reduce chances of infection.
