
Sikkim Reopening Updates: As per the reports, Sikkim Government has allowed colleges and other Higher Educational Institutions to reopen from today, 14th September 2021. An education department circular issued by the additional chief secretary to the education department, G.P. Upadhyaya stated that the State government has decided to reopen all colleges and institutions of higher learning from 14th September on the understanding that most of the students have got themselves either fully or partially vaccinated by now. However, educational institutions have to follow proper COVID-19 protocols. The decision has been taken by the government with the understanding that most students are partially or fully vaccinated.
Sikkim Educational Institutes to Follow COVID-19 Protocols
It should be noted that educational institutions would reopen with proper protocols such as 50% attendance, social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands at regular intervals. All students are supposed to follow these guidelines. As per the reports, the number of people who have completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the state is 7,43,929 people. The number of people who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is 5,10,958. The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is 809 cases. Similarly, the death ratio due to COVID-19 is 1.23%.
Sikkim School Reopening Updates
Recently, the Sikkim government decided to close all government, private, private-aided and unaided schools till 31st October 2021. The decision was taken by the government after there were reports of COVID-19 cases in schools. The government decided to resume physical classes for students from 6th September 2021. Schools reopened in the state after almost 6 months of online classes. However, with at least 5 cases of COVID-19 reported in South Sikkim, North Sikkim, and East Sikkim, the government closed educational institutions for the safety and security of the students.
Reopening of Schools in Other States
Schools have resumed in several states for physical classes after a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. In Tamil Nadu, at least 30 students as well teachers tested COVID-19 positive after schools resumed for classes 9 to 12 from 1st September 2021. Similarly, more than 60 students, as well as staffers, tested COVID-19 positive in a nursing institute in Karnataka.
