The students of MANUU were also joined by a group of students from the University of Hyderabad (UoH). The CAB was passed in both houses of the Parliament last week followed by approval of the President converting it to CAA.
MANUU students’ union vice-president Intekhab Alam said that the students had given a letter to the controller of examinations of the varsity informing their decision to boycott the examinations. They added that the authorities will hopefully understand and give the students a different date for appearing in the examinations again.
The students of MANUU also expressed their solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi who have led the protests against the CAA. The protests in Hyderabad began late on Sunday night, following reports of police mistreating students in Delhi by lathi-charging and bombarding tear-gas shells. The protests in MANUU continued till Monday morning. The students took out a rally on the campus protesting against the CAA and also National Register of Citizens, which they said would discriminate against minorities. The police have deployed forces outside the campus of MANUU to ensure that the protests did not turn violent.
Meanwhile, Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad police commissioner via a tweet cautioned people to be aware of anti-social elements and hooligans who could disturb the peace of society. The people were also requested to abstain from such behaviour and contact the authorities in case any help is required.
