West Bengal, Karnataka Pass Resolution to Scrap NEET UG

Following the NEET UG row, state government of Karnataka, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have passed a resolution asking to scrap the NEET UG exams urging the centre to resume the earlier system of state government conducting their exams.

Resolution against NEET: West Bengal Assembly has passed a resolution to scrap the NEET exams and conduct its new entrance for medical students. West Bengal is the third state after Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to scrap the national-level medical exam.

West Bengal's resolution against the exam condemned the National Testing Agency alleging its inability to conduct a free and fair entrance exam for students pursuing a medical career. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister also urged the state government to resume conducting the Joint Entrance Examinations in the state.

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu stated that question papers were leaked for Rs. 30-40 lakhs as per the media and the future of 2 lakh students in the country is being ruined. He further stated that the state can transparently conduct the exam. 

He further pointed out, that the release of the NEET UG results was postponed to June 4, 2024, when the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared alleging that it was preponed to cover up something. 

Earlier West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also wrote to the Prime Minister Narendra Modu urging him to take immediate action and abolish the NEET Exams and restore the system of state governments conducting separate tests.

Karnataka Passes Resolution against NEET

The Karnataka state cabinet on Monday also gave its approval to adopt a resolution against the NEET exams. The resolution is likely to be tabled in the ongoing assembly session. Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivkumar recently urged the Centre to scrap the NEET Exams and allow states to conduct their entrance exams.

The Tamil Nadu state government has unanimously passed a resolution demanding the centre to scrap the NEET exams and permit state governments to conduct their entrance exams for admissions to medical courses.
