Encouraging reading habits at an early age would ensure a bright future for your children
Reading is not only an instrument of entertainment but also one of gaining knowledge. The more you read, the more knowledge you acquire and the more knowledge you gain, the better you become. But to develop a hobby of reading at young age is a difficult task. Every parent should try to motivate their children to read and do something creative to ensure their bright future.
Below are certain ways that will certainly promote a reading culture and help your child become a sensible and knowledgeable individual.
1. Make it a habit: You should try hard to make sure that your children read for at least some minutes every day and make it a daily routine. Once they are into the habit of reading, they will not have any issues in reading for long hours in the days to come.
2. Choose a book of interest: Children should be supplied with their book of interest so that their interest of reading does not fade. Hopefully, it would be fun which they will really enjoy. Their interests should be given due importance.
3. Breaks while reading: Long and continuous reading might be weary to the children. Regular breaks of 15 minutes every hour will keep them fresh and can break the monotony of reading for long hours.
4. Make it playful: Children love to play even while reading. Try to get involved with your child as he/she reads and make reading an eventful experience. You can also enact different characters of the story. This will ensure that the child enjoys the process and remains concentrated.
5. Try different books: Books of same type will be boring and monotonous, so the children should be provided with different kinds of books on science, arts, literature, magazines, etc. A variety of books will ensure that the child never runs out of options!
6. Place of study: Children cannot read in front of television or computer, their interests in reading might be diverted to watching TV or playing videogames. A separate reading room or a proper place will prove beneficial and helpful.
7. Giving reward: Never shout or show your anger when the child is not learning anything after efforts. Instead he should be rewarded for the efforts he puts in and the small things he has learnt. This will boost confidence and increase interest in reading and learning.
8. Be a role model: Children imitate by nature. They love to do what their seniors or parents do. Reading books, articles, magazines in front of the children or with them will arouse interest in them to read.
9. Make books and magazines accessible: It is never known when the child would feel like reading books. So books, magazines or newspapers should be kept within the children’s reach so that they can take it down and read when they feel like.
There are certain other ways besides the above mentioned ones. But these steps, if properly followed, will make children develop the hobby of reading in less time. Once they possess this habit of reading, they would simply be unstoppable, they can go anywhere in any field. The habit would ensure the children a bright future. They would become the pioneers and intellectual individuals with great knowledge and vision.
