Question: I am a student of class 12th of Punjab board and also doing a job. How can I speak fluent English? Can I become an advocate after 12th?
Priyanka
Answer: Your efforts to continue with your studies while working on your own are really commendable. Please note that there is no short cut to learn English. You will have to give yourself sometime and can become strong in the language only by reading English newspapers, magazines regularly and by practicing with your friends who are strong in the language themselves. Besides, try to learn five new words related to normal behaviour everyday as this will improve your vocabulary. Practice at least two new sentences every week. Small efforts like these will take you far and definitely boost your confidence.
Your second query- If you want to take up legal profession as your career and become an advocate, remember that life is not an instant food. After completeing your class 12th, you can either enrol for a 5 year integrated BA. LLB degree course or do your graduation in any discipline and then take up 3 year LLB course. You can also take up entrance exams organised by the institute of your choice or sit in CLAT (Common Law Admission Test). On successful completion of your degree, you will have to start with being an apprentice or assistant to an adovocate.
