This year Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have received 232,434 applications for admission to their flagship management courses, which is the highest in seven years. As per the sources of IIM Bangalore, the coordinating institute for CAT 2016, the total number of registrations were 208,000 on 22 September (i.e. the original deadline for registration ended). A five-day extension witnessed an increase in 24,000 more applicants.
“Total applications for CAT 2016 as of 5pm (closing time) on September 27, 2016 is 232,434. Last year (2015), it was 218,664,” IIM-Bangalore said in an email without providing more details.
In a strategic move, the deadline of registration of CAT 2016 was from 22nd September 2016 to 27th September 2016. The registration window of CAT-2016 was shut at 5:00 pm on September 27. CAT registration window commenced from 8th August 2016.

In the previous week, IIM-Bangalore made two announcements regarding the changes it has brought for the first time to allow the aspirants to make changes in their submitted registration form. They can make changes in the form beginning from 1st October 2016 until 5th October 2016.
