The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results for class 10 (X) examinations, Chennai region early on 21 May 2012. Chennai witnessed an overall pass percentage of 99.66.

A whopping number of 1,51,509 students have qualified for higher studies out of 1,52,024 who appeared for the exam. Apparently, a total of 2,117 schools including independent schools, Jawahar Navodaya and KV's (Kendriya Vidyalaya) appeared for the examination.

After the recent reform done by CBSE, where in board exam was made optional only 97,259 students registered for the former, the rest opted for school based evaluations.

An approximate figure of 432 students who finished in the grades E1 and E2 have been put under the EIOP category, meaning Eligible for Improvement for Performance. E1 and E2 grades are the rock bottom grades in the order of hierarchy.
