Sanskrit Scholarship: Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has inaugurated the Sanskrit Scheme at the renowned Sampurnanand Sanskrit University on Sunday (October 27), which marks the significant milestone in the initiative of the state's educational and cultural heritage. The scheme launched by CM is designed to provide financial support to the Sanskrit students across schools, colleges and universities in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Addressing the students of the university, the CM emphasised the scheme's timely launch ahead of Diwali, symbolising a renewed commitment to India's cultural roots.
Significance of the Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme
The Sanskrit scholarship schemes will provide financial assistance to students who are dedicated to Sanskrit studies. The scheme aims to provide support to students in their pursuit of linguistic and cultural. This initiative will be considered very valuable, as Sanskrit has often been regarded as a lesser-known or “niche” language in the modern educational landscape.
CM Adityanath launched this with gratitude and pride while highlighting the importance of Sanskrit. In the speech, he said, “ “I want to thank everyone for launching the scholarship scheme right before Diwali.”
A Growing Interest in Sanskrit Studies
While addressing the students in the university, CM acknowledged the challenges Sansrkit faces in terms of public awareness and appreciation. He also highlighted that recently the state has seen a significant growth in the students enrolling in Sanskrit studies. CM mentioned that earlier only 300 students were eligible to receive the scholarship due to age restrictions; however, the revised eligibility broadens its scope to include all eligible students, irrespective of age. As per the recent data, 1.5 lakh students are registered for learning the Sansktit language.

Direct Scholarship Transfers and Transparent Processes
The scheme will have a streamlined process for scholarship disbursement. CM has urged the students, the eligible students, to open their bank account to get the funds directly in their accounts. . In a major financial push, Rs 586 lakh was allocated as part of the scheme, which will benefit 69,195 students across Uttar Pradesh.
Plans to Revitalise the Gurukul Education System
The Uttar Pradesh government also plans to revive the traditional Gurukul education system across the state. The Chief Minister expressed that he believed that by teaching principles derived from Indian philosophy and culture, the Gurukul system could help India become a worldwide leader. The state government has planned substantial operational and financial assistance for Gurukuls, especially those that provide students with free housing and meals, in order to achieve this. In order to maintain the best standards in traditional education, these schools will also have the freedom to employ Acharyas, or learnt professors.
