CMAT in May 2013 for candidates from UP, Karnataka and Kerala who missed CMAT-1 and 2

Feb 22, 2013 13:40 IST

All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to conduct another Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) in May 2013 for candidates who could not enroll for CMAT-1 and CMAT -2 in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. They recently concluded one CMAT in February 2013. This is a good news for thousands of MBA aspirants who are seeking admission in MBA colleges under government quota.

CMAT was made the only gateway to admission under government quota from coming academic year, instead of the State-administered Postgraduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET). However, a request was put forward by the Karnataka Examinations Authority to AICTE to conduct another test. As per them only 3000 students had applied for CMAT-2.  Two CMATs — one held in September–October 2012 and another one scheduled for 21-25 February 2013 had elicited poor response from students in the State, who were expecting PGCET for admissions to MBA.

The test will be conducted somewhere in mid-May for students in Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh as the State governments had placed requests for this. This would not be a third test, but just an opportunity for those who were not able to apply for either CMAT-1 or CMAT-2.

This would be the only year that third CMAT will be conducted said SS Mantha, chairman of AICTE.  Students, who are appearing for the test again, can use the best of their scores in both the CMATs.
