The Public Service Commission, Uttar Pradesh (UPPSC), shall hold a Preliminary Examination at various centres in the Districts mentioned in the notification for selecting suitable candidates for admission to the Combined State/ Upper Subordinate Services (Main) Examination 2012.
Note: Application at this stage are being invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates declared successful for admission to the main examination will have to apply again in the detailed application forms which will be supplied to them by the Public Service Commission, Uttar Pradesh.

Eligibility Criteria for appearing in Combined State/ Upper Subordinate Services Examination- 2012 conducted by UPPSC
Educational Qualification: The candidates must possess Bachelors Degree of any recognised University or equivalent qualification up to the last date for receipt of application. This should be mentioned by the candidate in the relevant column of their OMR application form but for some posts specific qualifications have been prescribed of which the details are given below:

Age Limit (as on 1 July 2012): Minimum 21 years; Maximum 35 years
Application Fee: Rs 155 to be paid by General/ OBC of UP and all candidates of other States, fee for SC/ ST category candidates of UP is Rs 95 and fee for PH candidates of UP is Rs 55. through E-challan which will be used to deposit fee in any of the branches of State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank. The candidates must keep a photocopy of their O.M.R. application form with them. They must mention their OMR form No. in the correspondence with the Commission in future.
Selection Procedure: The Combined State/ Upper Subordinate Services Examination- 2012 conducted by UPPSC comprise three successive stages viz:-
- Preliminary Examination (Objective Type & Multiple choice)
- Main Examination (Conventional Type, i.e. Written examination)
- Viva- Voce (Personality Test)
Preliminary Examination: The Preliminary examination will consist of two compulsory papers of which answer sheet be on OMR sheets. The papers shall be 200 marks each and of two hours durations. Both the papers shall be objective Type & multiple choices in which there shall be 150-150 questions. The timing of paper I will be from 9.30 to 11.30 am and paper II from 2.30 to 4.30 pm.
Subjects for the Main (Written) Examination: The Written examination will consist of the following compulsory and optional subjects. The candidates have to select any two subjects from the list of optional subjects for main examination. Each optional subject will consist of two papers.
COMPULSORY SUBJECTS in Combined State/ Upper Subordinate Services Examination- 2012
- General Hindi (150 marks)
- Essay (150 marks)
- General Studies (I-Paper) 200 marks
- General Studies (II-Paper) 200 marks
General Studies (Paper- I & Paper- II): Shall be objective type containing 150 questions and for solving the questions two hours time is allowed. For other compulsory and optional papers three hours time is allowed. Two hundred maximum marks has been allotted for each optional question paper.
Note: Timing of Examination Paper of 2 hours will be 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Timing of examination paper of 3 hours is 9.30 am to 12.30 am & 2 pm to 5 pm. A candidate shall be required to obtain such minimum marks in the compulsory paper of General Hindi, as may be determined by the Government or the Commission, as the case may be.

Personality Test (Viva-Voce) Total Marks 200: The test will relate to the matter of general interest keeping the matter of academic interest in view and for general awareness, intelligence, character, expression power/ personality and general suitability for the service.
How to Apply for Combined State/ Upper Subordinate Services Examination- 2012 conducted by UPPSC: Interested eligible candidates can apply through OMR application form which will be available from the Head Post Office of the Districts or from the Post Offices mentioned in the advetisement. The form complete in all respect must reach The Secretary (Advertisement No.: A-1/E-1/2012) Public Service Commission, 10 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Allahabad - 211018 either by Registered Post or personally (by hand) before the last date.
Candidates must paste one self attested Passport Size Photograph on the application form at the space provided for the purpose, otherwise their application shall be rejected.
