DU Admission 2017: Trouble in understanding process brings students to open house

Registration for admission in Delhi University started on May 22 but the tab for 'academic information' was not functional as the board results were not declared then. The full website was made functional yesterday but there are still a lot of confusions as the guidelines for merit-based courses, which help students understand the process of aggregating marks while filling up their academic details, have not been uploaded till date.

    Entrance Procedure

The admissions to various colleges of the University of Delhi are based either on merit or entrance.
Applicants seeking admission to UG merit based programmes/courses must register on a centralized admission Web Portal of Delhi University, whereas applicants seeking admission to UG entrance test based need to apply on a separate portal for which the registration will start from today.

Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication (BMMMC) emerges as a popular course

Confusion also prevails for courses like Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication (BMMMC) and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) which require the students to sit for an entrance test. The schedule for the same is not clear yet and that has added to worries of parents and students. Raising their concern at the Open House conducted by Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW),  parents asked what they should do considering the private universities will not only declare the schedule but also the results and start the classes after charging the fee, by the time entrances happen at IPCW.

Mass communication is one of the most popular courses this season with others like English Hons and Economics Hons being the other ones. The admission to English hons, which earlier required qualifying the entrance test, will be merit based this year.

    Common confusions

It is also made clear that no more than 15 per cent leverage will be given for Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) and sports quota, unless there is  an extraordinary request by a coach. Some students were also confused about the dates of entrance courses but that is something which will only become clearer with time.

The Delhi University admission process has started earlier than usual this year to spare the students the hassle of doing everything at the same time. However, technical glitches proved to be varsity's undoing in this regard and this is something they will have to keep in mind in years to come.
