Goa has always been synonymous to progress, but this time the state has more than one reason to be happy. The percentage of female enrolment is 61.2% in Goa’s higher education institute making it the highest women enrolment in terms of higher studies in any state in India.
Kerela slipped to the second position in women enrolment at 56.8% and was ousted by Goa from the first position in the year 2006-7.
Apart from Goa, Kerala and a few North Eastern states, enrolment of women in higher education is below fifty percent in other states.
The number of colleges in Goa has gone up from forty six in 2006-07 to fifty four in 2010-11. Goa University received total grants of Rs 1.74 crore from the UGC during the year as against Rs twenty four lakh in 2005-06.
