Government job aspirants! Caste and domicile certificates to now get linked with Aadhar Cards

Jun 24, 2016 18:10 IST

The centre has ordered all the states to issue Aadhar cards to school students by linking their cast and domicile certificates with the card. This would be first of its kind initiative by the centre to highlight the caste of the school students along with the Aadhar cards.

The centre has ordered the states that such certificates should get generated to school students from Class V to VIII, within 60 working days’ time. This would make sure that the students belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes don’t have to wait for their scholarships due to caste verification issues. On the other hand these students had to undergo harassment by government officials in taking out the caste and domicile certificates in many cases, which has made the centre announce that it would now get linked with the Aadhar Card while getting issued at their schools.

According to an answer released by the Personnel Ministry on issuance of caste and certificates in schools, it states, “The state government may also try to get the information of students fed into the meta data to be made online and may link it to Aadhaar enabled data, if feasible. Sincere efforts be made to issue these certificates along with Aadhaar number.”

Aadhaar is a 12 digit number provided to each citizen as proof of identity and address in the country through the Unique Identification Authority of India. It is valid at any part of the country as a proof of identity or address.
