The mains examination will consist of subjects same as last year i.e. quant, reasoning, English, computer aptitude and general awareness with time duration of 2 hours 20 minutes. This is the first time that the exam will be conducted in a new pattern i.e. allotted sectional timing for each section of the exam.

The IBPS is all set to conduct the main examination for PO/MT on 20th November 2016. Candidates who have qualified in pre exam will have to appear in Main examination and short listed candidate in main examination will subsequently be called for Interview. Marks obtained only in the main examination will be considered for Short listing for interview and also for final merit listing. The total marks allotted for the mains examination are 200.The weightage (ratio) of Main exam and interview will be 80:20 respectively.

Pattern of Mains Examination: The mains examination will consist of subjects same as last year i.e. quant, reasoning, English, computer aptitude and general awareness with time duration of 2 hours 20 minutes. Candidates may be required to be at the venue for about 3 hours or more including the time required for completion of various formalities such as verification and collection of various requisite documents, logging in, giving of instructions etc. This is the first time that the exam will be conducted in a new pattern i.e. allotted sectional timing for each section of the exam.  That makes the total time for the examination as 135 minutes instead of the previous 120 minutes.

Total time allotted is more than last yearThe total time allotted to the test is increased to 140 minutes instead of the 120 minutes that was allotted to the test as of last year. So, you get more time, true, but you have to use it according to the time allotted by IBPS.

Effective Time Management Tips: The banking team of Jagranjosh.com has come up with few time management tips which will prove helpful to crack the main examination, stated as below:

Do not think about time in each section: This is because IBPS has already specified that there will be separate timing for each section and you have to finish that section within that time only. There will be no option for you to come back to that section after you have exhausted the allotted time to that particular section. The pattern is similar to the SBI Clerical examination that was conducted in June 2016.

Take the change positively: Do not fret about the new change as it is for everybody and everybody will be taking the test with the same pattern. So, consider the change positive since you do not have to worry about time allotment and the number of overall questions is less along with more time allotted overall for the paper.’

Strengthen your English and GK: These two sections are going to see an increase in cut off because more than required time is allotted in these two sections and you have to attempt all the topics in English and make sure your GK answers are right so that any silly mistake cannot throw you out of the competition.

Figure out what's covered: Concentrate on the topics that you have already covered and about which you are confident. Do not try to learn new topics as at this time it will only lower your confidence. Revise General Awareness and Computer Knowledge section as these are scoring section.

Focus on accuracy:  Candidates should not try to attempt all the questions as it is not possible to solve all questions in given time. Candidates are advised to focus on accuracy.

Cross-check the options also:  Sometimes one can easily get the answer by just checking the given options. So cross check the given options before marking your answer.

Avoid wastage of Time: Don’t spend too much time on reviewing question paper and avoid solving a particular question repeatedly, it will lead to have inadequate time to solve other sections.

Avoid guessing answers: With each wrong answer you would decrease your chances of selection in the written examination as negative marking is applicable in this examination. Hence, it is safe to answer whatever falls under the purview of your knowledge. Guessing doesn’t help in such examinations to topple the hurdle.

Be confident:  Self Confidence is the key to crack this examination. From a comparative analysis of the candidates who got already selected, self confidence was one thing that found common amongst all selected ones. You need to keep yourself charged and have faith in yourself.
