With increase in usage & crime rates via social media among the youth, the I&B Ministry has decided to construct a social media communication core to monitor online content across the nation, district wise. New executives will be posted for this work in 716 districts of India in near future.
This decision was taken by the Ministry after the fake news controversy where journalists found guilty of spreading fake news were penelised.
The monitoring mechanism, once active will be able to read, contextualize and respond to content in most Indian and foreign languages across India, and will get a “360 degree view of the customers by integrating customer relationship management data with social profiles.”
The implementation of this mechanism will be done by the broadcasting arm of the Ministry, Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Ltd. (BECIL). All the media hubs are instructed to collect the data related to regional media and local events, monitor local editions of newspapers, cable channels, FM stations and important local social media handles and hand it over to BECIL after fact checking.
A new tool namely, SMA (Social Media Analytical) tool in this regard is also been set up by the broadcasting arm that will have the capability to crawl WWW and other social medias to analyse various trends. Moreover, this tool in context to I&B perspective can also differentiate between ‘positive, negative and neutral social media conversations’ that’s happening.
