The under graduate students at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) are in for a toss starting next academic session, 2013.
The students starting next year, 2013 could see a hike in their tuition fee . The tuition fee which stands at present at a stoic 50,000 can go up to 90,000 starting next year.
This decision came after a committee of IIT directors recommended the eighty percent hike. The standing committee of the Council, which engulfs directors of the seven older IITs, met in Mumbai on 5 November 2012.
Though the news can dishearten meritorious students, the good news is the recommendation of the fee hike may not be applicable to students from socially and economically weaker sections.
Also, a special loan scheme is being talked about so that the students who cannot afford the increased fees have the option of paying back the loan once they finish their course, and find employment.
