The Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) is enlarging its base in Kolkata by setting up new research and innovation parks, as mentioned in IIT-KGP’s official press release, issue on 30 December 2013.
The aim for the setup is to merge the industry and academia, while the premier Technical institution also endeavors to foster international collaborative studies through these Research Parks.
The press release mentioned that hubs would elevate the scope of young scientists to enrich their academic prospects as well as allowing them to enhancetheir entrepreneurship skills.
The parks will be built at Gopali, Kansabati and Rajarhat, with one also existing in the Kharagpur campus, as the IIT-KGP Plans.
The first Park will be built in Kolkata. The hubs are to merge all these areas and the construction project is live. The first building is proposed to be established by early 2015, informed the project in-charge, Joy Sen.
Joy added that the parks will be an extension of IIT-Kharagpur in the West Bengal’s capital.
The facilities of housing collaborative research, laboratories of partner organizations, incubation units, along with other academic and research facilities would be fully accommodated by the research parks and Building.
