To fill in the huge gap between the job market and the academic curriculum followed by engineering institutes of India, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) planned to introduce new age courses like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Let’s take a look through the various courses and certificates programmes introduced at campuses of different IITs, autonomous public institutes of higher education, located in India.

1. IIT Hyderabad

IIT Hyderabad introduced India’s First B.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence Programme.

Globally, IIT Hyderabad is likely the third institute to offer a full-fledged B Tech program in AI, after Carnegie Mellon University and MIT in the US. Admission to the course for 20 available seats will be done on the basis of the JEE-Advanced score.

The institute is already offering a Masters in Technology programme  in data science and machine learning.

Apart from AI and ML, the institute is launching a Master’s program in Development Studies. The course will be conducted by the Liberal Arts department.

3. IIT-Madras

IIT Madras has launched a start-up called ‘PadhAI’ – an online platform to teach Artificial.

PadhAI is a four-month course comprising 80 hours of lecture content

Under the initiative, the top-performing students will be invited at IIT-Madras Research Park to work on research, tackle problems of societal impact, or find solutions to commercial value.

The startup was founded by Mitesh M Khapra and Pratyush Kumar, assistant professors in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras, and incubated by the IIT Madras Incubation Cell.

4. IIT Mandi

IIT Mandi launched six new between August 2017 and August 2018.

The programs launched included M.Sc. in Physics, M.Tech. in Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI), M.Tech. in Structural Engineering, M.Tech. in Power Electronics and Drives (PED), M.Tech. in Communications and Signal Processing (CSP) and M.A. in Development Studies.

The Institute also introduced two new elective courses; ‘Monitoring of Himalayan Environment Using Optical and Microwave Remote Sensing’ and ‘Geology and Geomorphology’.
