Jamia Millia Islamia Brings Innovative Measures to Empower “English Outcasts”

Jamia Millia Islamia has recently launched a couple of unique yet innovative programs -- Communicative English Program (CEP - third edition) and Self Enrichment Program (SEP - Nikhar), for the students of the university that will offer them a life-changing opportunity. These self-improvement Programs have been started especially for students from socially and economically marginalized sections of our society, those who have had no formal education in the English Language, and have been treated as "English outcasts".

The Communicative English Program, envisaged by former vice-chancellor, Najeeb Jung, and the Self Enrichment Program, foreseen by the current officiating VC S M Sajid, are designed to empower and integrate these marginalized students in the mainstream section of the university.

In its new avatar, the programs will not only address the linguistic needs of the students with respect to training in English language but will also take care of other life-skills that are essential for students to grow as ones who would be able to contribute to nation-building.

Independent of credit requirement at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, these stand-alone courses have around 140 registered students. The courses are focused on including intense interaction in English, both in formal and informal situations. Primarily, it is aimed at enabling students to communicate effectively and appropriately in every real-life situations. These courses would help students feel confident while interact in English, both in the classroom and outer world.

In addition, skills like management, leadership, negotiation, creative thinking, decision-making, and managing demands from diverse interpersonal relationship would also be imparted during the courses.
