JEE Advanced 2018: Clarification regarding Numerical Answer Type Questions

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has recently released a notification related to the numerical answer type questions asked in JEE Advanced 2018, conducted on May 20. There were 8 numerical answer type questions asked in each subject of both the papers i.e., Paper-1 and Paper-2 of JEE Advanced. For each correct answer, students shall get +3 marks while for each incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted from the total marks.

Earlier, in such type of questions, students had to round off their answers up to one digit integer. After appearing for JEE Advanced 2018 exam, students are very confused about the correctness of the answer for these numerical type questions. To clear the doubt of all students, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has released the criteria for the correctness of the answer of numerical type questions asked in JEE Advanced 2018.

JEE Advanced 2018: Paper Pattern, Marking Scheme and Analysis

For numerical answer type questions, the numerical VALUE entered by the candidate will be evaluated. All such answers will be evaluated by checking whether the answer entered by the candidate falls within a range of two values, with or without including the upper and lower values of the range depending on the question. Some examples:

    (a) If an answer is the integer 18 (Eighteen), all answers entered as 18, 18.0 or 18.00 will be correct.

    (b) If an answer is exactly the number 17.8 (Seventeen-point-eight), all answers entered as 17.8 or 17.80 will be correct.

    (c) If an answer is the number 18.48777777..., all answers entered within a specified range, for example 18.48 to 18.49 will be correct. Thus both answers 18.48 and 18.49 will be correct.
