KPSC to consider Open University candidates for recruitment

Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) will now consider the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) students for recruitment as ordered by the Karnataka High Court.

The Karnataka High Court has recently ordered the Karnataka Public Service Commission to consider the candidature of applicants applying for posts of assistant or first division assistant who have obtained their degrees from the Karnataka State Open University. The court has ordered the commission to consider Open University candidates for the posts as well before making the provisional selection list final. The recruitment notification, for which the order has been issued by the Court, was dated 30 June, 2015.

The petition was filed by KSOU to which Justice S Abdul Nazeer has said, “The selection of candidates is subject to the result of the writ petition.” In this regard he has issued a notice to the Department of Higher Education (Universities), KPSC and University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Karnataka State Open University, in its petition filed to the court had requested to issue a direction to make sure that the students who have been awarded degrees from the university be considered for various job opportunities provided under the KPSC. It has pointed out that KPSC had recognized the results of the university in respect of earlier appointments made for posts as that of sub inspectors in the state and thus it should follow the same methodology for all the other posts as well.

The petition further stated that the university offers the degrees to its students only after careful evaluation of the things they have learned and thus they remain qualified to hold various posts in the government offices.
