IIM Calcutta faculty members share their views about the Jagranjosh.com’s initiative to demystify MBA education in India and how it has helped MBA aspirants take better decision about their future in the management domain.
Extracts from the Interview
Prof. Runa Sarkar
Dean – Academic
I really commend Jagranjosh on this particular initiative to open up the concept of management education for all. It’s wonderful that you have decided to take up this initiative through which students and MBA aspirants for an MBA can actually know what it is. It’s not just the hype around the six and seven figure salaries that you get. This initiative will help them understand what exactly does it mean to do an MBA and what benefits would they get by doing an MBA.
I am so glad that Jagranjosh has taken up this initiative to try and demystify, if you will, MBA education and where the MBA can take you.
Prof. Abhishek Goel
Faculty – Organizational Behaviour Group
I really appreciate that Jagranjosh is taking this initiative of trying to put forth to people that management education is slightly more serious business. It is not about big bucks, it is not about bringing you great things in life. It is actually a lot of hard work, where you are probably working more than what you could have afforded. In fact, Jagran talks about awakening and may this awakening be about Management education and Josh refers to energy. So hopefully, this initiative will instill awakened energy among the MBA aspirants.
Prof. Prashant Mishra
Dean – External Relations & New Initiatives
We at IIM Calcutta are very happy to be part of this initiative on behalf of Jagranjosh. I think there a lot of misconceptions or misunderstandings or kind of misinformation about what management education is. And I am really glad that this initiative is aimed at clearing such misconceptions. We wish you all the best for your future initiatives like these and hope that you undertake many other such initiatives for the benefit of the younger populations and young graduates and others who are looking for information, guidance, and counselling to take informed career decisions.
Prof. Anandiya Sen
Former Dean – Academic and Programme Initiatives
I am also very glad to see that Jagranjosh has taken this intiaitve of reaching out to the B-schools. And really trying to give aspiring students a lot more insight into what is an MBA like. What is an MBA programme? What does it mean and what they can expect if they join a good B-school and so on and so forth.
Prof. Amit Dhiman
Faculty – Human Resource Management Group
I am really excited by this new initiative that Jagranjosh.com has launched. It is very important that young people get to know about the different opportunities that are available for them, especially the opportunities available in the Management Education field. I have felt over the years that students are, at times, very confused, there are many opportunities they see. But, the clarity on where do they want to go, what do they want in terms of their careers, is not there among the students. So, such initiatives will surely help them. Because, the views being shared here are coming directly from the people who are into these fields, for instance management education. And they also talk and discuss different aspects and facets of management education. This will surely give a far better understanding and information to the students and MBA aspirants to make a right career choice. So, I think that way it’s a very great initiative that Jagranjosh has launched.
Students, at this age, require a lot of guidance. Otherwise they take rushed decisions based on very limited information and they jump to conclusions about their career choices. So, such initiatives and information definitely help the students, not only in terms of making their career as a business student but also when they join the work force. Through such initiatives, they will be able to understand what are the expectations from them in the work life are and how their career will be moulded. Therefore, I would say the work you have started is very laudable.
