NCTE Extends Duration of BEd programme to Two Years
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) decided to increase the course duration of Bed to two years which will be replaced by the current course duration of one year.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is seeking to make changes in the Bachelor of Education (BEd) programme for students who seek to become teachers.
In order to get more efficient and skilled teachers NCTE has geared up the students and teachers of BEd programme as from the next academic session they will have to dedicate two years for BEd rather than one year which means aspiring teachers are to spend five years now in classrooms themselves.
Students have been mandated to complete BEd within three years from the date of admission. They should have more than 80% attendance every year. Teacher training colleges must have one teacher for every 25 students.
Syllabus for BEd will also be changed. A framework to formulate the syllabus will be sent to all universities.
