The Medical Counselling Committee has introduced changes for this years NEET PG 2026 counselling process in the  Allotment, Reporting, Upgradation and Withdrawal (Resignation) of Allotted Seat. Counselling Round 1 registration is set to commence on October 12, 2026 at mcc.nic.in

NEET PG Counselling 2026: The Medical Counselling Committee has issued the complete schedule for NEET PG counselling. The registration for the first round of NEET PG Counselling 2026 will begin on October 12, 2026. Students who have cleared the entrance exam as per the cutoff and percentile given must register for each NEET PG counselling round through the link given. 

Until last year, 2025, all the steps of counselling like reporting, upgradation and resignation required all the candidates to physically report at the allotted institute and complete the admission/ upgradation/ resignation formalities on the portal provided to institutes by MCC. Candidates willing to upgrade from Round 1 to Round 2 or Round 2 to Round 3 had to report at the allotted institute/college with original documents and complete the admission formalities. From this year onwards, MCC has introduced certain changes to the online counselling process for admissions to PG Medical courses.

NEET PG round 1 seat matrix has been released online. As per the schedule released, the verification of the Tentative Seat Matrix by the participating Institute will be conducted from October 10 to 12, 2026.

NEET PG Counselling 2026: Changes Introduced

Depending on Willingness for Upgradation, candidates will be divided into two categories after allotment: 

Freeze Candidates – No Upgradation (Candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seats and do not want to upgrade in the next round (i.e. Round 1 to Round 2 or Round 2 to Round 3) will fall under this category. Candidates who want to join the allotted seat will have to visit the allotted institute physically for joining. 

Float Candidates – Want to Upgrade:  Candidates who have been allotted a seat but want to upgrade in the next round (i.e. Round 1 to Round 2 or Round 2 to Round 3) will fall under this category. They have to give their willingness for upgradation and upload the required documents for online document verification by the allotted Institute. (There is no need to visit the allotted institute physically).

MCC NEET PG Counselling 2026: Round-wise Process

A total of three rounds of counselling will be conducted, followed by an online stray vacancy round. Students are required to register for each round separately as per the timeline shared. Check the round-wise procedure below

Registrations: For each counselling round, the registration link will be activated as per the dates provided. Students need to log in with their NEET PG application number and password and complete the registration process. 

Choice Filling and Locking: After completing the registration process, students need to enter the choice of course and college for allotment. Each round will have a fresh link for students to enter the choice of course and colleges. The choices are to be entered in the order of preference for allotment. Students can also refer to the seat matrix to enter the choices

Processing: The choices entered and locked will be processed. The allotment will be done as per the availability of seats and the applications received. The NEET Rank and, score, and category of application are also taken into consideration

Allotment: The provisional allotment result will be released for each round. Candidates will be given a chance to rectify any grievances before the final allotment result is declared. Candidates need to wait for the release of the final allotment result

Reporting: Students allotted seats need to first log in, choose their allotment and download the allotment letter before reporting. When reporting, candidates need to carry all relevant documents as originals and scanned copies with them. The documents will be verified before the admissions are finalised.

Freeze - Candidates choosing this option can proceed for Physical joining /reporting and Document Verification at the Allotted Institute:. The following process will be conducted 

i) Submission of Physical documents at the institute 

ii) Physical Document verification at the institute 

iii) Admission Fee deposit at the institute 

iv) Institute Decision regarding finalisation of admission: TWO conditions as follows: 

  • Documents Valid- Admission confirmed and Seat Finalized 
  • Discrepancy found in documents- Admission cancelled 

Float – Candidates who wish to upgrade must choose this option and will NOT proceed for Physical Document Verification at the Allotted Institute. The following process will be conducted under this option.

i) Verification of uploaded documents by the Allotted Institute in online mode only by the allotted institute nodal officer. 

ii) Detection of Anomalies by the institute nodal officer, such as: 

  • Blurred copies 
  • Incorrect certificates 
  • Mismatch in claims in category, etc. 
  • Missing documents 

iii)Query Resolution Mechanism in case of Detection of Anomalies: Document Verification Committee (DVC) of the Allotted Institute may raise a query regarding anomalies in documents to the candidate. 

iv)Candidate must re-upload corrected documents within the stipulated time as early as possible in the reporting schedule to avoid cancellation of the seat. 

v) Re-verification of correctly uploaded documents conducted by the institute nodal officer/DVC. 

vi) Document Verification Committee (DVC) Outcome

  • Provisional Seat Confirmation if documents are found in order and the candidate becomes eligible for the next round. 
  • Seat is cancelled due to a discrepancy between claims and documents. As documents are not in order. Eligible for the next round (as per criteria). 

vii) Candidate will exercise choices for the next round

NEET PG Counselling 2026: Seat Resignation (Withdrawal) / Surrender Process 

Candidates with provisional admission may submit a seat surrender request with supporting documents online to the Nodal Officer of the allotted institute 

FREEZE CANDIDATE will have to visit physically to the allotted institute for resignation 

a) Candidate will physically report at the allotted institute and submit Resignation within the stipulated time period prescribed by MCC as per schedule. 

b) Candidate can resign/exit the seat and become eligible for the next round as per the resignation rules for Round 1 and Round 2. Candidates cannot resign/ exit Round 3 allotted seats. Refund will be processed as per the counselling Scheme once all the rounds are completed.

 c) Once a seat is surrendered/resigned, the candidate will have NO claim on that particular seat.

FLOAT CANDIDATE with provisional admission may submit an online seat surrender request with supporting documents. 

1. Candidate goes to ‘Candidate Login’ on the MCC portal 

2. Select “Resignation/ Surrender” 

3. Candidate will submit Resignation online. 

4. Seat resigned/ surrendered, provided resignation is tendered within the stipulated time period prescribed by MCC. 

a) Candidate can resign/exit the seat and become eligible for the next round as per the resignation rules for round 1 and round 2. Candidates cannot resign/ exit Round 3 allotted seats. Refund will be processed as per the counselling Scheme once all the rounds are completed.

5. Once a seat is surrendered, the candidate will have no claim on that particular seat
