New Budget Promises New Achievements in Educational Sector

    The Union Budget for the year 2014-15 came out in mid July and was presented by the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley. The new budget poured in some good news to educational sector that is proposed to help millions of youngsters in the years to come.
    Every aspect that included in the BJP’s election manifesto has been covered in the budget starting from girl education, e-learning, restructuring of University Grants Commission (UGC) into Higher Education Commission and setting up of National Multi-Skill Mission to name a few, besides others.

    • The new Narendra Modi government will set up Sports University in Manipur and for which Rs 100 crore is provided in the current financial year. The government is going to set up sports academy for various types of sports in different parts of the nation.
    • Two film making institutes- FTII Pune and SRFTI Kolkata will get special status of national importance.
    • New budget also has proposals to set up 5 new IITs and 5 new IIMs.
    • 12 new Govt Medical colleges with dental facilities will be set up.
    • There are proposals to put up four more AIIMS in Andhra, West Bengal, Vidarbha and Purvanchal for which Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned.
    • Education of girl child is the new motto of BJP government and for that the budget has set aside Rs 100 crore for the programme “Beti padhao, beti badhao yojana.”
    • Upgradation of Madrasas is also in the row with budget of Rs 100 crore.
    • Education loans for higher studies will be easily available under simple norms.
    • Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned for to-be launched Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya New Teachers Training Programme.
    • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan worth Rs 28,635 crore and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan worth Rs 4,966 crore to be initiated.
    • Farming and Agro technology will get two new institutes in Assam and Jharkhand.
    • Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan will have new Agriculture Universities for which Rs 200 crore has been allotted.
    • New Horticulture Universities to be set up in two states- Haryana and Telangana.
    • Bangalore and Faridabad will have two new biotechnology institutes.
    • National level institutes for Universal Inclusive Design and Mental Health Rehabilitation along with Centre for Disability Sports proposed by the government.
    • Government proposes to include gender mainstreaming as a separate chapter in school curriculum.
    • overnment allots Rs 13,215 crore for mid-day meal programme.
    • Reconstruction of Nalanda University on the proposal list
    • Rs 30 crore has been set aside for Hastkala Academy to be set up for the preservations, revival and documentation of the handloom/handicraft sector in PPP mode in Delhi.
    • Set up of five technical research centers for nanotechnology through PPP model.
    • Establishment of National Academy for Customs & Excise to be established at Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh.
    • The government proposes to transform employment exchanges into career centers through which information and counseling will be delivered for job availability.
