The HRD Ministry has finalized the name of Professor G Raghuram as the replacement of Sushil Vachani. Vachani quitted nine months before from IIM-Bangalore and since then this position was vacant.
The proposed director of IIM-B i.e. Raghuram is a professor at IIM Ahmedabad presently. He has been serving his duties in IIM-A since last three decades and is presently operational in the institute as the chairperson of the Public Systems Group. He has done his specialization in infrastructure and transport systems, and logistics and supply chain management. In addition he has also conducted various researches on issues pertaining to railway, port, shipping, aviation and road sectors. As far as his alma mater is concerned, he studied at IIT-Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad and later moved to Northwestern University in US for pursuing doctorate degree.Along side he has also co-authored 6 books.
Vachani resigned from his position after his plea for extending the tenure was not accepted by then HRD Minister ‘Smriti Irani’. He resigned three month before the expiry of his official term.
Raghuram is the preferred choice of the current HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. As per the sources, the file, with the panel of three candidates along with the minister’s preference, has been despatched to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. But the final decision remains pending.
