The NIT Council has finally come up with their version after the IIT did so. The NIT decided to adopt the Common Entrance Exam on 4 July 2012, where forty per cent weightage would be given to Class XII board scores and 60 per cent weightage to performance in JEE Main.
In the earlier pattern, NIT aspirants were supposed to take the JEE advanced apart from the main, as per the recent decision now the students would be required to only appear for a single test — JEE Main. The 40:60 division will come into effect from 2013.
This would be a land mark decision for all the thirty NIT’s which enroll over twenty thousand students.Earlier on 28 May 2012, during the joint council meeting, NITs had decided to allot forty per cent weightage to board scores and thirty per cent each to performance in JEE Main and JEE Advanced. However the council revised the decision again on 4 July 2012.
The Council has now decided to form a committee with NIT Directors to look into the issues relating to normalization of Class XII Board marks on the percentile basis.
