    NITIE Admission Criteria & Process (2019-21)

    Established in 1963, National Institute of Industrial Training (NITIE) has been a pioneer in offering quality education and training in the field of Industrial Engineering. Since its establishment, the institute has been spearheading towards keeping up with the ever changing needs of the modern industry. NITIE is dedicated to help Indian businesses to make their presence felt on the international front. The institute aims to act as a driving force not only in manufacturing sector but also in dynamic sectors of the Indian economy. NITIE enjoys the status of being among the top management institutes in the country, as per the NIRF Management Ranking 2018. No wonder, it is a popular choice among management and engineering aspirants.

    This article is for all the NITIE aspirants who want to pursue career in Industrial Training and do not know how to go about it. We bring to you detailed information on the NITIE admission criteria and process.

    Programmes offered at NITIE

    Listed below are the programmes offered at NITIE:

    PGDIE

    Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) is the flagship programme that has constantly evolved to tackle the complex changes in the industry through a thriving industry- academia interaction. The course structure and dynamic curriculum has been designed in such a way that real life business situations can be simulated inside a classroom. This enables students pursuing this programme to get familiar with the strategies required for dealing with such scenarios.

    PGDIM

    Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM) is a two-year, full-time program that attracts some of the best minds from the country. The students who pursue this programme hail from diverse backgrounds, majority from engineering backgrounds with over two to three years of work experience in business and industry.

    PGDISEM

    PGDISEM is a sustainability-based programme and that incorporates safety, social and environmental stewardship issues into the fabric of the course. The programme focuses on the ‘People Planet and Profit’ approach. Its curriculum contains both technical and managerial perspectives. 

    PGDMM

    Post Graduate Diploma in Manufacturing Management is a two-year, full-time programme that will enable students in developing their decision-making capabilities and skills in the manufacturing domain. The programme aims at creating professionals equipped to meet the challenges manufacturing management.   

    PGDPM

    Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management is a two-year, full-time residential programme designed and offered to meet the growing needs of professionals in the project management field across different sectors. Majority of the students in this programme are from engineering background and have two to three-year of work experience. The curriculum is dynamic in nature to keep up with the rapid changes in industry, technology, society and the economy. 

    Fellow

    NITIE offers a doctoral level fellowship programme with a view to mould students competent enough to make career in research, academic, consulting and business. The program was established in 1980 and since then over 60 Fellowship degrees have been awarded. The fellowship program is interdisciplinary in nature, covering different aspects of management, Supply chain management, operations, technology and environmental management.

    Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing (VLFM)

    VLFM is a one-year executive program jointly conducted by NITIE Mumbai and IIT Delhi. The programme is for mid- senior level managers. The executive programme encompasses four weeks industry internship and two weeks of international visits and industry treks.  

    Programme-Wise Eligibility Criteria

    Now that we have the details of each programme offered by NITIE, let us take a look at the eligibility requirements of each programme:

    PGDIE

    • To be eligible, the candidate must have a full-time Engineering/Technology degree in any branch from a recognized university with aggregate 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).

    Students in the final year of graduation can also apply subject to the following conditions:

    • Complete their examination, viva voce etc, by June 2018.
    • Submit the final year mark-sheet and provisional certificate, latest by September 2018.

    Candidates should take the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by the IITs in order to apply for the programmes

    PGDIM/ PGDISEM

    To be eligible, the candidate must have a full-time Engineering/Technology degree in any branch from a recognized university with aggregate 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and a valid CAT score.

    Students in the final year of graduation can also apply subject to the following conditions:

    • Provided they qualify the above criteria for examinations appeared till date.
    • Complete their examination, viva voce etc, by the time of joining the Institute.
    • Submit the final year mark-sheet and provisional certificate, latest by September 2018.

    Applicants should take the CAT conducted by the IIMs in order to apply for the programs.

    PGDPM

    To be eligible, the candidate must have a full-time Engineering/Technology degree in any branch from a recognized university with aggregate 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and a valid GATE score.

    Students in the final year of graduation can also apply subject to the following conditions:

    • Provided they qualify the above criteria for examinations appeared till date.
    • Complete their examination, viva voce etc, by the time of joining the Institute.
    • Submit the final year mark-sheet and provisional certificate, latest by September 2018.

    Applicants should take the GATE conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT’s) in order to apply for the program.

    PGDMM

    To be eligible, the candidate must have a full-time Engineering/Technology degree in any branch from a recognized university with aggregate 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and a valid CAT score.

    Students in the final year of graduation can also apply subject to the following conditions:

    • Provided they qualify the above criteria for examinations appeared till date.
    • Complete their examination, viva voce etc, by the time of joining the Institute.
    • Submit the final year mark-sheet and provisional certificate, latest by September 2018.

    Applicants should take the GATE conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in order to apply for the program.

    Fellow

    • Candidate with Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering/ Technology, Management, Economics, Commerce, Social Sciences, Life sciences and Pure Sciences with 60% aggregate marks (55% in case of SC/ST/PwD (Person with Disability) candidates) from recognized University/ Institution can apply.
    • Candidates appearing for their final examination in the respective disciplines can also apply, provided they qualify the above criteria for examinations appeared at the time of application and submit their result latest by September 30, 2018.
    • Projects/ Work Experience/Research Publications in these areas would be preferred. As per Govt. of India rules, reservation of seats exists for SC/ST/OBC-NC (Non-Creamy) and PwD candidates.

    VLFM

    • Passionate engineers with 5-12 years of experience in the manufacturing domain.
    • Professionals demonstrating leadership capabilities
    • Ability to thrive in an experiential and peer driven learning environment.

    NITIE 2019-21: Admission Process

    Aspirants can apply to their choice of programme by following the process shared below:

    PGDIE/PGDMM/PGDPM

    The application process is common to all PGDIE/PGDMM/PGDPM program. Interested candidates should apply in online mode only. To apply, the candidates must fill the form given on the official NITIE website.

    The Application processing fee is Rs.1000/- in case of General and OBC candidates, Rs.500/ in case of SC/ST/PwD candidates. This fee can be paid through payment gateway. 

    PGDIM/ PGDISEM/ Fellow

    The application process is common to both PGDIM/PGDISEM program. Candidate can apply for more than one Program. If applying for more than one program, candidate needs to give his/her preferences and pay the applicable application fees.

    Application Fee for each program is Rs.1000/- (Rs.500/- in case of SC/ST/PwD candidates) for applicants from India, plus bank charges as applicable. This fee can be paid through payment gateway.

    The eligible candidates should apply through online mode only and register themselves on NITIE Mumbai admission portal.

    VLFM

    The admission process to this programme comprises the following steps:

    Step 1: download the application form. The form is elaborate and you are expected to have detailed responses to four five main questions on your passion for manufacturing and experiences.

    Step 2: The application portal “online mode of submission would be ready for use by next week. However, we also accept the filled form “emailed and ˜speed posted as part of his/her application packet.

    Step 3: attach the relevant DD and the self-attested certificates.

    Step 4: The letter of reference (LOR) is a separate form. You can share the link for LOR with your recommender / download and share the soft copy of LOR to your recommender. The filled in LOR be sent independently by your recommender and be received by the VLFM office by the due date. Pending receipt of your LORs would cancel your application and no refund of application fee provided.

    Step 5: If you are sponsored, ensure the sponsorship letter is attached with your application packet. The format for the same would be uploaded separately in the next few days.

    NITIE 2019-21: Cut-off

    NITIE does not have a specific CAT/GATE cut-off set for admission; however, candidates are expected to have good scores in the same along with the eligibility requirements stated above. A cut-off is the minimum marks that candidates are required to obtain in order to be eligible for admission.

    NITIE 2019-21: Final Admission Selection Criteria

    PGDIE

    Shortlists for GD and PI Process- The candidates are shortlisted for the GD and PI process based on their GATE scores subject to meeting minimum eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates are called to the Institute campus in Mumbai for the GD and PI process.

    Final Merit List- Merit List is based on a total score which considers the candidates academic records, GATE score, relevant work experience (if any) and performance in the GD and PI process.

    PGDIM/ PGDISEM/ PGDPM/ Fellow

    Shortlists for GD and PI Process

    Only those candidates who meet the following requirements shall be considered for shortlisting:

    • Who have applied to the Program and paid the prescribed registration fee within the time specified, and
    • Who meet the eligibility criteria of the above sated programme and
    • Who have a valid CAT score

    Candidates are shortlisted for the group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI) process based on their valid CAT scores subject to meeting minimum eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates are then called to the institute campus for the GD and PI process.

    Final Merit List

    The final merit List is based on a composite score which considers the candidates academic records, CAT score, relevant work experience (if any) and performance in the GD and PI process.

    PGDMM

    Shortlists for GD and PI Process

    Admission is based on Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) with appropriate weightage to GATE/ GRE score (as applicable), academic performance and relevant work experience of reputed Industrial Organization/Academic Institution. All the shortlisted candidates will be called for GD and PI at NITIE, Mumbai.

    Final Merit List

    Merit List is based on a composite score which takes into account the candidates academic records, GATE score, relevant work experience (if any) and performance in the GD and PI process.
