Prof Indranil Manna got appointed as the new director of IIT, Kanpur following after the approval by the President of India in his capacity as Visitor of the premier institute.
The appointment will be effective for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 70. The appointment letter in this regard has already been accepted by Prof Manna, the letter was issued by the chairman, Board of Governors, IIT, Kanpur.
Manna is to join as the director within September 2012 and succeed Prof SG Dhande who presently holds the top position with an extended term till 30 September 2012.
After a brief stint at Mishra Dhatu Nigam, Hyderabad, Manna joined IIT, Kharagpur in 1985 as a lecturer and rose to the position of full professor in 2003. He was in this position till he joined CGCRI as director.
Prof Manna is a metallurgical engineer along with being a prolific researcher. His significant contribution in the study of amorphous/nanocrystalline Al-alloys, nano-fluid and laser/plasma assisted surface engineering greatly inspired the scientific community.
