    SBI PO Exam 2018: Latest Notification

    State Bank of India Job Notification: State Bank of India (SBI) invited applications for the post of Probationary Officer across the nation. All those candidates who have completed their Graduation can apply for the examination. Even, the chartered accountants can also apply. Candidates will have to appear for Preliminary Examination followed by Main Examination. The qualified candidates will also have to appear for Group Exercises and Interview.

    SBI PO Exam 2018 is one of the most important government examinations and lakhs of candidates is expected to appear for this exam. Last year, a total of 2313 PO posts were filled by the Bank. This year, the last date to apply is yet to be announced, but as per last few years, the SBI PO Exam 2018 application process will continue for a month starting from February 2018 till March 2018.

    SBI PO Exam Centre

    While filling the online application form, applicants are required to enter their preferred exam centres for SBI PO 2018, based on their convenience. However, the Bank may allot an exam centre other than the choices made by a candidate if there is non-availability of seats at preferred venues.

    Eligibility Criteria for SBI PO Exam 2018

    Educational Qualification

    Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central Government. Those who are in the Final year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if called for interview, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination. Candidates possessing qualification of Chartered Accountant may also apply.

    Age Limit

    Not below 21 years of age and not above 30 years of age.

    Selection Procedure for SBI PO Exam 2018

    The SBI PO recruitment exam is the most sought after among all the bank exams in India. It is considered a little difficult compared to the bank entrance exams conducted by IBPS. The recruitment process for Probationary Officers at SBI consists of 3 stages:

    1. Preliminary Examination

    2. Main Examination

    3. GD/Interview

    Phase-I : SBI PO Exam 2018 Preliminary Examination

    Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows

    Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 20 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be short listed for the Main Examination.

    Phase – II: SBI PO Exam 2018 Main Examination:

    Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered.

    (I) Objective Test: The objective test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 Sections for total 200 marks. The objective test will have separate timing for every section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

    (ii) Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.
    Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in objective test.

    Negative Marking in SBI PO Exam 2018

    There is a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests of both Preliminary and Mains exams. A wrong answer to an objective question by the candidate will lead to a penalty of one fourth of the marks assigned to that question. For example, 0.25 marks will be deducted as penalty for wrong answer to a question that carries 1 mark. There will be no penalty for leaving a question blank, i.e. if no answer is marked by the candidate.

    Phase – III: SBI PO Exam 2018 Group Exercises (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)

    The total aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test are arranged in descending order for each category of candidates. Around 2 to 2.5 times, the numbers of vacancies, candidates are called for GD and Interview for each category, as decided by the Bank Recruitment Body. The Bank Interview Board decides the qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview.

    Final Selection

    The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for the selection and only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in Objective Test and Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in G& Interview (Phase-III) for preparation of the final merit list.

    The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Exercises & Interview Ex(out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is prepared at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group &Interview out of 100 for each category of candidates.

    The selection is made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category. Results of the candidates who have qualified for Group Discussion & Interview and the list of candidates finally selected will be made available on the Bank's website. Final selection list is published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar and also in Bank’s website.

    How the Final Marks are calculated in SBI PO Exam?

    The final score for the SBI PO exam is calculated keeping the following points in mind:

    • Marks obtained in the Preliminary Exam (Phase-1) will not be considered for selection

    • Candidates must qualify Phase-2 and Phase-3 separately to be eligible

    • Marks secured by the candidates in the Mains Exam (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Exercises & Interview (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. This makes the new total score (Mains + GD/PI) to be 100

    • The aggregate score out of 100 is used for the final merit list for each category.Candidates with top merit rank in each category are finally selected.

    Candidates who have already appeared for the maximum number of chances permissible are not eligible to to apply. The number of chances will be counted from the examination held on 18.04.2010. Appearing in Preliminary Examination will not be counted as a chance.

    Career Path of SBI PO

    The Probationary Officers will be on probation of two years during which they will be given intensive training. Towards the end of their probation / training period, they will be subjected to a screening process. While those Officers who achieve the predetermined standards may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Officer Middle Management Grade Scale-II, others who qualify in the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale-II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Grade Scale-I.
