Simple Steps to Score High in the IAS Main 2011 Essay Paper

There is a compulsory Essay Paper in the UPSC Civil Services Main Exam. It carries 200 marks; you are supposed to write on one essay from the list of 5/6 topics asked by the UPSC. Because it is a compulsory paper, so it is really crucial in determining the final selection and rank of the candidate. Before you start writing the essay on the topic you choose from the list, you must keep the following points in your mind:


•    Keep a balanced view on the asked topic always

•    Focus on your understanding of the topic

•    Before starting your essay writing do a little brainstorming

•    Jot down all the points coming to your mind on a rough page

•    After you have the random points, choose one to start with, giving a nice and sensible introduction and then keep writing and elaborating the points systematically

•    Start the essay with realistic approach and end with optimistic approach

•    If on a particular topic you have some relevant extra information to write on, you can draw a box aside on the answer script and put them in the box

•    If you can explain something better with the help of a diagram you should draw and explain; it would fetch you good marks

•    Always conclude the essay with a positive note
